Desperados Skate Ramp
It’s been another immense day at the Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters Festival 2012 with the opening of the music festival up at Watergate Bay. The whole site has been pumping all day with epic tunes under crystal-clear blue skies and blazing sunshine.
The skate, surf and BMX kept the Fistral Beach crowds buzzing while the Watergate Bay crowds contently set up their tents in the sun – a far cry from the downpours in the campsite last year.
A massive variety of tunes kept every music-lover grinning, from the hip-hop lyrical geniuses of Duke, and the hardcore scream of Marmozetes, to the magical scratching of the DJs on the Relentless Energy Sessions stage, and the indie-rock inspired main-stage sound of Towns.
The Desperados mini-ramps was where it was truly at today, with skate and BMX jams mixing up the crowds already spell-bound by the hip-hop stylings of Duke. FBBB skaters tore up the mini ramp under the voices of Lucas Brammall and Scott Penman who kept the kids happy with plenty of Desperados freebies.
The Marley and View Point areas not only have a super chilled-out reggae and soul vibe but an epic backdrop of the sea and cliffs of Watergate Bay.
The Vans Off the Wall stage has already been showcasing the next generation of bands breaking through in the UK, such as As we Sink, Hilldamay, and Great Cynics, and there’s plenty more to come with Feed the Rhino, While She Sleeps and Pulled Apart By Horses on the lineup for tonight.
An often-criticised area of festivals is the main-stage sound, but here on the main stage Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters, the sound is above and beyond what anyone could expect. With Ed Sheeran headlining tonight, there’s no doubt the already stoked crowd will be in for a treat – with some already queueing at the front, several hours before the main man is due to come on.
It’s still only 7:30pm and the sun is blanketing the crowds in a golden glow. With so much still to come on every stage until past midnight, day one of the Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters music festival has already smashed expectations, and promises to offer us even more tomorrow.
